Awen Workshop is a one-man operation specialising in handcrafted electric guitars and high-quality lutherie tools. Every instrument is custom-built with a focus on playability, aesthetics, and character, while the tools are designed with precision and durability in mind—made by a luthier, for luthiers. This website showcases my past work, offers insight into the commission process, and features a small, curated shop for both guitars and tools. Whether you're a player or a builder, there's something here for you.

My Story

I began working on guitars not long after I started playing—building my first electric guitar at just 16, less than a year after picking up the instrument. That early curiosity quickly grew into a passion for making. In 2017, I started my business crafting music-related wooden accessories like guitar and headphone stands, while also working in a local music shop in my hometown.

By 2018, I had taken the leap into full-time self-employment, expanding my offerings to include guitar repairs, servicing, and custom builds. Everything changed during the 2020 lockdown, when I entered the Great Guitar Build-Off. Off the back of that project, I was invited to join Crimson Guitars in England, where I began teaching at their School of Luthiery. Over time, I became Head Teacher, working with hundreds of students a year from around the world and refining my own skills in the process.

My love for hand tools—especially vintage ones—really went into overdrive during my time at Crimson. That passion now fuels the other side of Awen Workshop: designing and building high-quality tools for luthiers and woodworkers who value craftsmanship as much as I do.

Today, Awen Workshop represents the heart of everything I’ve learned so far—where music, woodworking, and thoughtful design come together in every build.

My Tools

Awen Workshop is a business that is built on quality, excellence, and passion. As a luthier and avid vintage tool collector, I started with the goal of creating exceptional and inspiring tools that last for a lifetime. I believe that the mark of a great tool is its ability to feel like it belongs in your hand and performs like an extension of your own vision. That’s why my tools aren’t just well-made, they’re engineered to be beautiful as well. I am passionate about creating heirloom quality tools that are meant to be passed down from one generation to the next.

My Guitars

At Awen Workshop, every guitar begins with a conversation. I work closely with each customer to understand their playing style, aesthetic preferences, and ergonomic needs—ensuring that the final instrument is a true reflection of them. From there, I carefully select tonewoods and components that not only look beautiful but work harmoniously to bring out the best possible sound and feel.

My builds combine vintage inspiration with modern refinement. I favour clean lines, subtle details, and intuitive design over flashy ornamentation—focusing on playability, balance, and character. I’m especially drawn to multi-scale instruments and ergonomics, preferring to blend them with that traditional vibe to create a new genre of instrument that just doesn't exist at the moment.

The entire process is hands-on and personal. I don’t rush builds, and I don’t cut corners. Whether it’s shaping the perfect neck contour by hand or picking just the right colour scheme for the body, my goal is simple: to create instruments that inspire players, feel great in the hand, and sound even better than they look.
